Farbrace quits as Sl coach
Colombo: The head coach of the Sri lanka cricket team Paul Farbrace has decided to leave his post and take up the assistant coach's job for his native country, England. Sri lanka Cricket (SlC) secretary Nishantha Ranatunga said that Farbrace this morning officially informed his decision to the SlC executive committee. Only Monday SlC had expressed optimism that the former Kent player would stay on with Sri lanka despite offers from the England and Wales Cricket Board to become the deputy for Peter Moores. Farbrace was at the helm when Sri lanka won the World T20 title earlier this month by beating India in the final. He had earlier guided Sri lanka to annexe the Asia Cup and emerge triumphant in the Test and ODI series in Bangladesh. Farbrace, who had previously served as Sri lanka's assistant coach, took up the head coach's role only at the end of 2013. He joined a long succession of head coaches for the national side and leave the job abruptly since the last World Cup held in 2011. Trevor Bayliss left the job after the World Cup, leaving the Australian Stuart law as the interim coach. law was succeeded by the Sri lankan Rumesh Ratnayeke until the arrival of the Australian Geoff Marsh.
Mahela, Sanga face SlC action
Colombo: Sri lanka Cricket has referred the matter pertaining to the row over T20 International retirements of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara to the Disciplinary Committee of the Board. "Sri lanka Cricket wishes to announce that the SlC Executive Committee which met last evening has decided to refer the unsubstantiated statements made by Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara at the Press Conference held at the Airport on the 8th of April 2014, to the Disciplinary Committee for their views and recommendations on same," the SlC said in a statement on Tuesday. Sri lanka's victory reception after clinching the World Twenty20 title in Bangladesh early this month had turned sour with Jayawardene and Sangakkara slamming SlC officials for finding fault with the way the duo announced their retirement from T20 Internationals.
Ashraf lashes out at Sethi
Karachi: Former Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf has lashed out at his successor Najam Sethi, blaming him for the sport's rapid deterioration in the last two months. In a statement, Ashraf claimed the situation had deteriorated after his departure from the board and said he felt discord, disunity and fear in the national team now. He also attacked the Board under Sethi for inducting "tainted" players in different roles in the PCB.
