wait & watch for chennai ties

Chennai: IPl authorities will ascertain whether the Tamil Nadu government will allow Sri lankan players to play in the first qualifier and the eliminator here next month before taking any decision to shift the two crucial games to an alternative venue. The decision to seek the views of the Tamil Nadu government, which had banned Sri lankan players from playing IPl matches in the state in the wake of the strong anti-Sinhalese sentiments, was taken at the IPl Governing Council meeting here. The first Qualifier is scheduled at the Chepauk on May 21 and the Eliminator on the following day. "We will first ask the state government and police commissioner on whether Sri lankan players will be allowed to play the qualifier and the eliminator. Once we get their response, we will be in a position to take a decision," a top BCCI official told PTI. "If the state government allows the lankan players, then there will be no issues and the matches will be held as per schedule," he said.

A hair raising tale

Kolkata: The IPl is far beyond just cricket. Even the hairstyle sported by the cricketers has a touch of IPl in it. Virat Kohli’s hairstyle has become a craze in the ongoing sixth edition of the tournament. KKR's Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine has not only tormented the batsmen with the ball, his ‘mohawk’ has also caught the attention of the fans. Sachin Tendulkar has a new spike, while RCB ‘s hard-hitting Jamaican Chris Gayle's unique dreadlocks are all becoming the talk of the style freaks. The most noticeable hairdo has been of ‘sir’ Ravindra Jadeja, who sports the special CSK design.

Super Over excites Zaheer

Bangalore:  Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Zaheer Khan wants to bowl at Super Over in the IPl as he is excited at the prospect of two good deliveries ending a contest. "I will take wickets. We just have to take two wickets to get the team out. let's look at it that way," Zaheer, who is yet to play in this season's IPl, said. "Honestly I have never been part of Super Over. So it is interesting for me to see how it goes and you can't plan anything. That is the way I look at it. You have to back yourselves and back your instinct. You know the batter is going to come at you," he said. Asked about the status of his recovery from injury, Zaheer said he was feeling better and hoping to start bowling a soon as possible. "If I start bowling things will be easier," he said.    pns/Agencies
