The Spy Who Dumped Me
*ing: Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux, Sam Heughan
Rated: 6/10
Comedy marries intense (attempted) action on this middle line spy movie helmed on two women in their 30s with issues.
The attempt to keep things light after Mila Kunis and her best friend Kate McKinnon sucked into an international conspiracy embedded in a pen drive, the action suffers a plain storyline syndrome something that starkly slows down the proceedings despite multi-nation jumps the two take in crazy car rides.
In comparison, it is Kate rather than Kunis who holds the film by the scruff of its collar and somehow pushes it some notches up from mediocrity.
The edge comes from the comic situations sometimes hung up on anatomy talk what with the dirty pen drive being pushed into the most secret crevice of Kunis’ body.
That apart, had the story been groovier, much like the humour, things would have been different and more interesting but for a lean mean week this one is cool to go to. Breezy spy thrillers are seldom pinned on purely female shoulders so on that category this one scores some brownie points. Kunis as usual is arresting with her big shapely eyes and quizzical demeanour. But sorry to repeat it, the movie draws its breaths and moments from Kate as Morgan.
