After playing Pammi in Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand, SANGITA GHOSH is back on TV with Rishton Ka Chakravyuh on Star Plus. She talks to PARTH TAYAl about her role
Why an antagonistIJ
I thought about it for very long before considering this role. I have never played a role like this earlier. But I love challenges. My (Sudha’s) character is important as it will take the story forward. I am sure the viewers will love me in this new avatar.
Will viewers will accept you as a vampIJ
A lot of my fans were shocked when they saw me in this role. Even my mother was shocked. She said: ‘Are you madIJ Why you are doing such a roleIJ’ All my life I have been doing positive roles and after sometime it gets monotonous. I want to try everything and explore myself as an actor.
What is the show and role aboutIJ
This show is a family drama — a conflict between a mother (Satrupa) and daughter (Anami). The show focuses on a rich industrial family living in lal Mahal — a home to many conspiracies. I play Sudha. She is the fuel to the fire in Satrupa and Anami relationship. Sudha is constantly plotting and playing mind games with others. So this character is very intriguing and playing this antagonistic role was interesting.
How does it feel to be backIJ
Yes, I am back after a gap of 10 years. Both personally and professionally my association with the channel has been great. Whatever characters I have played on their show have always been praised. The channel’s reach is so good too. I am hoping that Sudha’s character also clicks with the viewers. But more than that, I hope the show does well.
Why just TV and not filmsIJ
It is not that easy to get into Bollywood unless you have someone watching your back. Also, I am not that ambitious, I like working at my pace and space.
For movies, one must know how to market themselves. Having said that, I did get few offers. Some of them were from big makers but unfortunately it didn’t pan out well.
Apart from work what keeps you busyIJ
Whenever I am not working I am with my family or I am travelling. After marriage, I have been travelling a lot more since my in-laws are in Jaipur. The city is beautiful. People there love socialising as compared to Mumbai. To see such diversity in our country, it is amazing.
How do you manage a long-distance relationship with your husbandIJ
He is a Polo player, so we both keep travelling. Right now he is in the US, but whenever he is free he comes to meet me in Mumbai and whenever I am free I go to Jaipur which keeps our relationship healthy and exciting. Yes, it’s a hassle but I feel lucky that I have got such an understanding husband and in-laws with a very modern outlook.
What do you look at before taking a projectIJ
First, I should not feel embarrassed about it and it can be about anything not just skin show. Second, I see whether the writer has conviction or not, if the writer has confidence in his content than as an actor you also feel confident about doing it. For me, writers are real heroes of a story.
What changes do you find in television nowIJ
I find a lot of changes. Earlier, subjects used to be more sensible and not ruled by TRPs. The audience was more patient. Now, they just watch an episode and decide whether it’s good or not. The industry is more professional today. But there is more chaos as there are over 100 people on the sets on a daily basis. . But we get compensated well. A good is that actors can stay in touch with their fans over social networking sites.
Future plansIJ
Right now I am associated with this show. Once this gets over I will again take a break of six months and then decide about the future. I can’t do back to back shows it’s very monotonous. Probably the only plan l see in the near future is to travel with my husband.
