*ing: Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salmaan, Mithila Palkar, Kriti Kharbanda

Rated: 7/10

Taking a road trip with the marvellous Irrfan can be nothing but pleasure and  Karwaan is no exception. Add to that the handsome bloke from Mallu cinema DQ (Dalqueer Salmaan) and you have quite a joyride at hand, even with a dead body for company in the backseat.

Karwaan, in cinemas even as Irrfan battles for life in london, gives you that extra reason to watch this film which would not have disappointed you even if it had unfolded in happier times for the actor.

light, modern, funny and cryptic, much like our young society is nowadays, Karwaan goes on a trip from Bengaluru to Coimbatore after a coffin mix-up takes DQ and his friend Irrfan on a journey to fetch the estranged father back for a decent funeral.

The film, a clean take on relationships at various levels (father-son, friendships, mother-daughter or just strangers coming together by situations) are looked into with souffle lightness which in no way makes them frothy or frivolous.

It’s, as usual, a delight to be with Irrfan who gives new meaning to understated humour, quizzicality and eccentricity. As a concervative but well-meaning Muslim friend of DQ, he is much of the reason to come to the cinemas for this film. He, and DQ, who makes quite an entry into Bollywood without as much as a hiccup.

Then there is Amla who you can hardly recognise and the sprightly Mithila Palkar as Tanya who gives moments to the movie whenever she gets a window away from Irrfan.

Enjoyable fare despite the dead bodies!
