UNGlI
Staring: Sanjay Dutt, Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, Randeep Hooda, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi, Neil Bhoopalam
Rated: 5/10
This multi-starrer movie is inspired by a Malayalam movie where the leads raise their finger against the corruption that has seeped into every nook and corner, be it the traffic cops, the babu sitting in the pension office or the autowallahs taking the common man for a ride.
Directed by Rensil D’Silva, this Ungli has nothing new to offer in terms of storyline or concept. Over the last few years, Bollywood has churned out many films on similar track. While the intention of the director is on the right path, one can only see so many movies on the same subject or for that matter get the same treatment — good guys (there is a gang of four) versus the bad guys and the public siding with the good even if they are breaking the law.
Then there are cheesy dialogues — Aansoo sirf whisky dilute karte hain, Aap Kale (Dutt’s name who plays the cop) hain toh woh dilwale hain only make one groan rather than laugh. As for the performance, the starcasts appears to amble along. But is stems from the fact that they have nothing to offer in terms of acting. Hashmi does what he does — kissing. And like he says ‘that’s my speciality’.
Sadly, the movie have no wow factor even when it comes to the songs as well. It’s more like an old wine in a new bottle.
