Queen
Starring: Kangana Ranaut, Rajkummar Rao, lisa Haydon
Rated: 6/10
let’s get one thing very clear. This movie is all about Kangana Ranaut. Though the likes of Rajkumar Rao and lisa Haydon are there, they are just there as a supporting cast. A tad strange for Rajkumar to have said yes to play a character that has shades of grey. But then he is not typical hero material who would sing or dance and woo Gen-X heroines.
So, if you are a Ranaut fan, Queen will ensure that you remain one forever. What is so brilliant about this movie is the fact that is a simple story that has been told beautifully through the lead protagonist — Rani essayed by Ranaut. Director Vikas Bahl has done an excellent job of not going over the top with the emotions and yet it touches the heart in a subtle way.
In fact, the film doesn’t have any sharp ups and downs, there is a steady flow of a constant that manages to connect and herein lies the entertaining quotient. Even her anguish after being dumped a day before her marriage has been portrayed in a well controlled manner. No crying, no screaming. Only flashbacks that show how their love blossomed woven into her present situation.
The naivete with which she buys a sex toy (thinking that it is a body massager) is endearing as is the innocence with which she embarks on her honeymoon alone.
Over all, it is a movie that talks of self realisation and transformation that every woman must watch who thinks that marriage is the sole aim in life.
