let’s first define horror for our filmmakers. Any world dictionary will tell you that it is an overwhelming and painful feeling that is caused due to something that is frightfully shocking, terrifying or revolting. Never does it say that it has to be creepy or gory with blood all over the place.

Off late, that is what’s being dished out under this genre be it Bollywood or Hollywood including that latest, IT, which is based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel by the same name.

Those who love his kind of horror fiction will love this one, but if you are the kind of person for whom horror means getting goose bumps from the things that go bump in the night, you may want to stay away from this one which begins with blood and ends on a bloody note literally.

The problem with this film is that there is no scare moment though there could have been a few. The things that do go bump in the night or day are creepy and had nothing to do with horror nor do they add to the scare quotient.

How does an ugly looking clown with fangs that surface every 27 years to kill scaryIJ Scary are movies like Omen — where a rather good looking kid looks evil, scary was Psycho. Scary was Dracula. So much so that people who had seen the film back then in India were scared to even go the washroom in the middle of the night.

But to give due credit to the make-up artist of IT — the look given to the clown and his various avatars are superlative, especially the creepy leper and the woman in the painting.
