All about infotainment

Pioneer

Watching a programme on wild animals and their antics or, for that matter, the world’s deadliest predators may not be everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to entertainment. But there are many viewers out there who are looking for shows that not only provide information but also make for intelligent viewing. Today, television provides many shows which have both. Based on their USP, SUNDAY PIONEER brings you a few such shows that make for a must watch

COURTROOM DRAMA

While there are several real life dramatisation of crime shows on almost all channels, our pick is Bhanwar on Sony Entertainment Television (India). What makes this show good is that it is based on real life courtroom cases. It takes one on behind the scenes investigation and how the lawyer fought the case to ensure that the culprit was put behind bars. One will also find many interesting elements of emotions that families go through during the trial of the case. Since such stories have remained unexplored so far on television, Bhanwar is an attempt to bring something new to the viewers.

CRIMETIME

While on one channel courtroom drama comes alive, Investigation Discovery’s Who The (Bleep) Did I Marry tells stories of people, mostly women, who find out that their spouse has committed a crime during their marriage. Though the cases shown are not related to the India, what makes this show interesting is the fact that the people shown are ordinary men who go about a daily routine without giving the impression that there is another side to this person — a criminal side to them. However, human nature is the same and in Indian context it helps one to take precautions from the word go as one may find oneself in a similar situation. The good thing is that it is in Hindi so it has a much wider reach and comes a message.

ABANDONED

Stories around forts, castles and villages that have a story to tell are always fascinating to watch. Ekaant on  Investigation Discovery channel will not only take you back in history but it will tell you how a once flourishing fort or town came to be in ruins today. The story told through dramatisation and narration is brilliant. For example one can explore how this once fortified town of lakhpat, which is situated at the mouth of the Kori Creek in Kutch, Gujarat became a ghost town. Not only does this show give you a sneak peek into the country’s history, the show comes with plenty of historical facts that one didn’t know.

OUT OF THIS WORlD

Aliens or the possibility that there is life outside on our planet is always fascinating to watch. Even those who don’t believe that there are any aliens or that they ever visited Earth will be quite taken in the the show — Ancient Aliens on History TV 18. The series explores the controversial theory that extraterrestrials have visited Earth for millions of years. From the age of the dinosaurs to ancient Egypt, from early cave drawings to continued mass sightings in the US, each episode in the series gives rise to questions, speculations, provocative controversies, first-hand accounts and theories surrounding this ageold debate — whether we are alone or not. A must watch for those who are ET fans as also for those who debunk their existence.
