MUSBA HASHMI speaks with RITVIK SAHORE about the latest season of TVF Play’s web series Flames and how did Ferrari Ki Sawaari happened among other things
What’s your role in Flames 2?
I play Rajat. This is the second season of the web series and the story is of young romance unfolding. As it was shown in Season 1 that Rajat and Ishita are now in a relationship, this season will show what actually happens after two people come into a teenage relationship — attraction and romance, understanding, discovering the deep-rooted discomforts, trust and a gamut of emotions.
What prompted you to play Rajat?
First, I found the storyline interesting and appealing. Second, I just completed shooting for Laakhon Mein Ek and it was an exhausting experience because I played a dark character in it. I wanted to take up something light-hearted that would be interesting to do and this series was the best option.
You debuted with Ferrari Ki Sawaari, how did that happen?
It happened all of a sudden. I was in Class VI and was preparing for my Mathematics exam. That’s when my father asked me to take a break from study and we both went to a mall. After doing our shopping, while we were returning home a person came to us and asked if I would like to be a part of a film. He was Rohan Mathur, now a casting director who was assisting in the film back then. At first, we thought it was a joke but then he took us into confidence and the next day I went for acting workshops. That’s how I got the film.
Were there any apprehensions in your family?
My parents have been very supportive throughout. I am here because of them. They always asked me of what I wanted to do before taking any decision themselves. Even when I was approached for the film, my father asked me tujhe karna hai kya? Knowing that I was so young still he asked for my decision whether I want to do it or not. They have always been understanding and comforting.
After doing the film, did your friends treat you any differently?
I had a small group of close friends and all of them were extremely happy. Vidhu Vinod Chopra sir even held a special screening of the film for my friends. There was no big difference in their behaviour towards me because we knew each other much before the film, so it was not a big deal. They are still the same.
Was acting always on your cards?
No. I never thought of becoming an actor. I was a confused child. Sometimes I wanted to be a pilot and sometimes a doctor. I took part in school plays and always got to play the lead, I still don’t know why. May be because my teacher liked me very much. (laughs)
There were reports that you were casted for a role in Super 30. Is it true?
No. I was never a part of the film. I don’t know why such reports were doing rounds on the internet, but I was never approached for any role in the film.
What things do you keep in mind before signing a project?
I try to choose strong scripts with good content. If the story is good your role will definitely stand out and people will love it. My focus never lies in playing only lead roles, the character and the story should be good and that’s all I look out for.
Any actor or director that you would like to work with?
I would like to work with Ranbir Kapoor as he is a fabulous actor and I love the vibe that one gets to see in his films. As for the director, I would love to work with Rajkumar Hirani sir and Sriram Raghavan, I love the kind of films they make.
