For Ranchi girl 27-year-old Shrutee Choudhary writing is not just a passion but a healing process as well. A poet by passion and an actor by profession, her debutant book ‘A Garage Sale of Lovelorn Things’ – a collection of 100 poems and prose was launched on March 16 in Ranchi with Dr RN Sinha, former head PG department English, St Xavier’s College present as the chief guest. Dr Ashok Choudhary, former Director HDRC, Dean and Head University Department of Botany, Dr Sushil Ankan actor, director and former professor, Rishi Prakash Mishra film director, actor and producerand Dr Shubha Rohatgi, Dean of Humanities were also present.

“My book is essentially a metaphorical yard sale of the emotional baggage we so often tend to carry around. For me writing has not just been a way of expressing my thoughts but also a healing process. It was in 2016 when I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression that I found solace only in writing poems. I started maintaining a diary at the age of 10 which later turned into a blog. This book is a reassurance to myself that however things may seem, I can persevere,” said Choudhary.

Inspired from real life incidents, Choudhary started working on her book in 2018 which is now available on Amazon and Flipkart. In less than a month of its launch, the book has been ranked one on Amazon’s Hot New Release in Poetry and Emotional Self-Help categories.

The author’s writing career kicked off when her posts on Instagram started gaining popularity. The hobby soon turned into a profession when Choudhary was chosen as a select writer for an online literary fiction magazine called Terribly Tiny Tales in 2015. This was soon followed by an American romance magazine- Frolic Media, Delhi Poetry Slam, Rattle Magazine and many others. She has also been featured in multiple poetry anthologies.

Apart from writing, Choudhary is also juggling a career in acting and has been a part of numerous television commercials including Rapido, Ponds and Heineken to name a few. The young author has also shared screen space with Vidya Balan on Buzzfeed India and will be a seen in a web series on a popular OTT platform slated to release in the coming months.

“I have always been a planner where for the first half of life I wanted to act and make money while in the second half I intend to settle in a beautiful countryside, lead a laid-back life and write. I would always come up new excuses of missing school and my mother would often call me a ‘dramebazz’. A die- hard Bollywoon fan, I have always dreamt of being a part of glamour world and want to act alongside her childhood crush Shahrukh Khan,” remarked the budding actress.

Born and brought up in Ranchi, Choudhary completed her schooling from JVM Shyamali (2011) and is a graduate in mass media from KC College, Mumbai (2015). She has also done a diploma in acting from New York Film Academy.

Residents of Kanke Road, her father Shishir Choudhary is the HOD Economics, St Xavier’s College while her mother Madhu Mishra is in the PG Department of English, Ranchi University.

“My father wanted to be a civil servant. When my book was ranked at number one on Amazon, he would send screen shots to everyone on his contact list. Just seeing him share my achievements makes me very grateful.  My mother has been my biggest critique and supporter but I still have a lot to prove to her and hopefully I will in the coming times,” said an emotional Choudhary.
