Work is in full swing for replacing existing sleepers with new fortified sleepers in Daltonganj railway station.
About hundred labourers were found working on a section of the railway track replacing the old sleepers with the new ones.
First ballasts were sidelined and then the soil beneath the sleeper was padded up for the placing of the new sleepers.
Sources in the rail vikas nigam limited said the old sleepers that are being replaced by the newer ones will not be discarded at all but will be used at some other locations where such sleepers can be put to use.
The need to replace the older sleepers with newer ones has arisen because of the hike in the speed of the trains.
The new sleepers can bear speed of the train upto 160 kmph but in reality it remains just 100 kmph on an average.
No railway official is ready to concede that Balasore railway accident has anything to do with this replacement for the sleepers nevertheless the tongue in cheek admittance is that track and sleeper have to be strengthened with the passage of time.
Sources in the railway vikas nigam limited said it's sleepers that are getting changed, not the track at all. The replacement for the sleepers is for the third railway line being laid from Patratu to Dehri On Sone.
Sources said it is the prime railway track of the third railway line where there is the replacement for the sleepers.
No adjacent railway track to that railway track where the sleepers are changed can have any passenger train passing through at all.
