Hundreds of protesters blocked all major routes of the State Capital on Saturday to register their protest against the murder of a middle-aged businessman — Narendra Singh Hora (55). Several women joined the protest along with other members of Sikh community and demanded immediate arrest of the criminals involved in the murder. Notably, Hora was shot dead near Roshpa Tower at 9 pm on October 5.

The relatives of the deceased rice trader blocked the Sujata Chowk — one of the busiest routes of the city in the morning demanding immediate action against the culprits. People of business fraternity too joined the family members in the protest and supported their demands.

The women protestors stated that law and order situation in the State Capital has worsened since past few months. Blaming the State Government for its laidback approach in controlling the crime rate that has witnessed a major rise, a group of women gathered at Albert Ekka claimed no stringent action is being taken by the concerned authorities in curtailing crime cases despite several dreadful incidents in the recent past in Ranchi.

“This is not for the first time when such a horrific incident has taken place. Be it Chief Minister’s residence or any posh locality, no place is safe for the common people. The government should step in and take stringent action against the criminals,” said, Sidhi Kaul expressing her discontentment over the whole episode. Similarly, another agitator in despair said that until and unless criminals are not arrested, they will not stop their fight as no citizen was safe in Ranchi.

Only after the intervention of the senior officials, the protest which continued till three hours was called-off. Meanwhile, the vehicular movement at all major routes was severely affected due to the protest called by members of Sikh community and business fraternity. The protesters blocked all adjoining routes leading towards MG Marg. Public was stuck at Main Road, Club Road, Over-Bridge and PP Compound because of the protests.

Even those commuters taking the New Market route, Kutchery route and Upper Bazar road for different purposes on a Saturday morning had a tough time navigating on these routes. There was a pile up of vehicles for several kilometres and the traffic was slow moving. Regardless of several attempts to clear the traffic jam from different traffic check-posts, the traffic constables had to struggle hard.
