RR Srivastava

The fast unto death agitation of JP jail inmates has now entered into the 9th day and till now more than two dozen agitators have been shifted to hospital due to their deteriorating health condition.

As the days are passing on more and more inmates of JP central jail are coming forward to support the inmates who had already completed the term of their sentence and are on the path of agitation demanding their release as per the revised judgement of Supreme Court of India.

Now some women also joined the fast unto death agitation with their kids and refused to take meal both in the day and in night. More than 650 inmates of JP central jail have come forward till now in support of the agitating inmates.

The report of this agitation has already been sent to the Government and attempts are on to resolve the issue by negotiation but this time the agitators are not ready to end their stir only on assurance.

Due to this ongoing agitation work in the industrial area of JP central jail has been paralyzed. The printing press unit, powerloom, Handloom, tailoring and other units are almost close since last two days.

Meanwhile the jail administration has got the message of IG of Prison, Suman Gupta where she had cleared the stand of department/Government. In her message Gupta has said that the revised order of Supreme Court had come on July 28, on which opinion of senior advocate of Supreme Court Ajit Kumar Sinha was taken, while they received the notice on October 13. In his opinion the advocate has said that the State Government cannot take any decision till the final verdict of the apex court.

The jail authority has already conveyed the message to the agitating inmates and now efforts are on to end the stir on the basis of this new development regarding the legal status of their demand which is based on the revised judgment of the apex court.
