No sooner did the Puja fervour scale down in the steel city, criminals made it a gloomy when a woman was shot dead by unidentified criminals on Saturday morning when she tried to resist snatching of her gold chain. The incident took place when the victim, Nasreen Parvez, a resident of BH Area, road number 3, under Bistupur Police Station was on a routine morning walk.

According to the sources, the woman was on her routine morning walk at Dhatkidih when two miscreants on bike tried to snatch her chain. “She was taking a walk. Suddenly two bike riders came from behind and tried to snatch away the chain. But when Nasreen tried to resist, they fired on her and fled the spot,’’ said Dhirendra Kumar Banka, a trainee DSP.

The injured woman was rushed to Tata Main Hospital where she was declared brought dead. The police is looking for the culprits, he said. “Robbery could have been the motive for the murder. But we cannot rule out anything at this stage as we are continuing our investigation,” said an officer of Bistupur police station.

As the price of gold skyrockets with each passing day, chain snatchers in the city are on prowl. Moreover, incidents of conmen diverting the attention of the public and making away with their bags containing cash and valuables have also been on the rise in the city. Despite efforts to curb the incidents by the police the situation remain the same.

Though such incidents are frequently occurring in various parts of the city, the police have not able to control the situation. People coming out of banks after withdrawing money have been the victims in a majority of the cases.
