A 24-year-old woman Babita Rajak was assaulted by her in- laws as she opposed to go for a pre-natal test. The victim was rushed to MGM Medical College after the assault.

A resident of Daiguttu in Mango, Babita is in her early stage of pregnancy.  She had refused to go for the test as her husband and her in-laws dream of a male child. Sharing her plight, the victim said that she was married to Bijay Kishore Rajak, a police constable posted at Garwah district, since January, 2013.

“I am leading a life of hell as ever since I was tested positive in the pregnancy test, my husband and in-laws had been pressing me to undergo a pre-natal test at a local ultra-sound clinic to determine whether it is a boy or a girl.

On refusal I was threatened of dire consequence. On Tuesday night at about 11 pm, my brother-in-law, mother-in-law and sisters-in-law together started beating me mercilessly,” said Babita.

On getting the information about the assault, Babita’s mother, Jagat Rani rushed from Noamundi where she stayed with her husband and a younger daughter.
