A woman was allegedly raped on gunpoint by a police sub-inspector Ramanand Jha at his own official residence in Dewaria police station in Giridih, sources said.
The case surfaced when the victim appeared before the superintendent of police Akhlesh V.Varier and narrated the ordeal after 13 days of the incident ,sources said.
The woman in a letter written to superintendent of police, Giridih Akhlesh V Variar, said that she was raped by one sub-inspector of Dewaria police station indentified as Ramanand Jha on August 23 ,when she met sub-inspector Ramanand Jha with having complain of her husband .The woman stated in her letter that she had married in the village under the Dewaria police station and her husband now kept away from his wife .she has been living with her mother.
According to the woman’s complaint, the woman came to the police station having complained of her husband on August 23, while the sub-inspector Ramanand Jha asked her that she was made to sit inside the police station for about 4 to 5 hours and offered to drop off her husband’s house . When it got late, however the police sub-inspector Ramanand Jha suddenly took her to his official residence where he sexually assaulted her till 4am on August 25.He also threatened her if she told anyone about the incident ,then I will send both of you including mother to jail ,he said .The woman managed to escape and reached her village ,where she narrated her ordeal to her relatives ,who in turn called up Giridih S.P. Akhlesh V .Variar.
The Superintendent of police, Giridih has handed over the investigation of the complaint to the Khorimhua SDPO and asked him submit the report within 24 hours ,the SP added. No FIR has been registered in the matter so far
