Wisdom in action and reaction would go a long way to achieve peace in the violence-torn world, eliminating hunger, poverty, injustice and crime, said Governor SC Jamir here on Wednesday.

Addressing an annual Christmas programme, organised by the Bhubaneswar Christian Community Association (BCC) here, the Governor said, “As we have always lived together in unity and solidarity throughout history, we shall continue to regard the diversities in the country as a source of richness and continue to build up the future together on the basis of respect for each other.”

Stressing on the need for love, peace, unity and brotherhood among mankind, he said “lord Jesus is the epitome of love, peace and forgiveness. The need for forgiveness and reconciliation among people can only be achieved by a genuine commitment to that kind of gracious love.”

Attending the event, Archbishop of the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Diocese John Barwa said elaborate celebrations of the Christmas Day holds no significance if Jesus is not born in our personal life, within ourselves. He stressed on the need for self-less love to solve many problems in the society.

The event later featured various cultural performances, including song and dance, presented by participants from nine churches of the capital city. The winners were later presented with prizes.

Among others, First lady Alemla Jamir, BCC president G Joykutty and general secretary Chittaranjan Nayak were present.
