Alarm bells started ringing for the education officials here when 17 children of a Government school at Matpoourhi in Sadar Block started vomiting. The school children had their mid day meal (MDM). Sources said the vomiting was attributed to the MDM. Panic and anger erupted.
In a swift and prompt action the sick children were rushed to the Sadar Hospital Daltonganj where they have been given saline drip. Sources said it was to check their fluid loss in their bodies. The hospitalised children are conscious and their body language is good said hospital sources.
DEO Palamu Mahawar said these 17 belong to upgraded middle school at Matpourhee and were going home after partaking mid day meal when they started vomiting. The 17 were admitted in the Sadar Hospital he added.
On being asked if MDM had anything to do with this vomiting DEO Mahawar said, “A brother of an ailing student has told us that this batch of students on way home found a wild fruit and eaten it only to vomit”.
DEO said as these children had their MDM, every one thought the food of MDM to be the factor but the children had eaten a wild fruit.
DEO said a probe has been ordered. DC Palamu K Srinivasan has taken this matter very seriously.
