What plagues the prestigious DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology (DAVIET) situated in the idyllic surroundings enroute to Betla National Park and barely 12 km off Daltonganj town.IJ
Sources said everyone talks of DAV’s engineering college at Jalandhar. But when it comes to DAV engineering college Palamau one’s face sulks. Sources said Palamau’s boys & girls make good engineering students but the story here is a little different.
Sources said the DAVIET runs in a high class building, very few private institutions can afford to have. The principal of the college Alok Dwivedi said ‘I have been to many private engineering colleges across the country but this one is simply beautiful’. Students too do not deny this. lovely rooms. Beautiful floors. Good drinking water sources.
A good building, a good location despite this the DAVIET gets in news for wrong reasons. WhyIJ The Pioneer made some efforts to find out the factors behind making this college a ‘newsy college’.
The admission in this college is quite low. Students from far do not prefer this simply because of the bad and adverse publicity of Palamau on account of its being an extremist-hit district where there goes hardly a month when ambush, encounter and landmine explosion or recovery is not heard or seen. All this dissuade many to join here.
Insider in this college told The Pioneer that fewer students are in faculties here and seats remain vacant. It is feared this college may not be running in any profit either. Sources said this college has suffered more for its frequent change of principals. There is hardly any history of any principal putting in here for a minimum of three years tenure. One comes here only to be shifted out said sources. The succession board of the principals here will soon be over stuffed said sources.
The DAVIET has seen so far nearly half a dozen principals. Sources said this college had once a principal who always boasted of his stint in Antartica! This principal’s letter pad had one note on how he had worked at a place where temperature used to be 50 plus degree Celsius. This principal was shown the door sooner than expected said sources.
The new incumbent Alok Dwivedi is young, energetic and has time to learn the delicacies of administration. The DAVIET has born the brunt of late conduct of the examination and its publication of results. And for this it is not to be blamed at all. The Nilamber Pitamber university under which it is so affiliated is slow on the conduct of semester system examination here and this is the main cause of the resentment among its students which erupt from time to time here. One university official admitted this fact tongue in cheek.
Sources said training and placement process are the other two aspects that get affected most by the delayed conduct of the examination and its publication of results. Recently the college’s TPO ( training & Placement Officer) a lady official was most unnecessarily given a raw deal by a section of students which forced the NPU to step in to restore normalcy there.
