Residents of National Games Housing Complex (NGHC) at Khelgaon, after withstanding acute water crisis for over 15 days in their houses on Wednesday, were forced to hit the road demonstrating a protest at main gate of the complex for around two hours. Residents, both males and females, shouted slogans against the builder Nagarjuna Constructions Company (NCC) demanding regular and impartial water supply everywhere in the complex.“In spite of paying regular maintenance charges to the construction company, we are not getting proper water supply in our flats forcing us to depend on packaged drinking water even for the bathing purposes,” said a protesting resident.
The residents also demanded an alternative arrangement of water supply inside the housing complex so that they do not have to be fully dependent on the supply water. They demanded immediate repairing of the only defunct bore-well inside the complex and at least 4 more bore-wells to cater the water requirement of the residents.Assistant General Manager Sanjay Singh of NCC, however, claimed that water related problem will be sorted out soon within a day or two as the drinking water and sanitation department has promised that regular supply of water will be restored within a day or two.
“Since we are not getting regular supply from above for the last few days, we are not able to provide adequate water supply to the residents,” said the AGM. For the time being, we are taking help from the tube-well meant for construction purposes, he said.“We are in regular contact with the Executive Engineer of DWSD who said that due to some problem at the point of supply, they have not been able to provide regular supply of water in the city for the last 15-20 days,” said Sinha.
Officials at Booty water treatment plant on the other hand said that the root cause of the problem remains with the electricity department. “We have not stopped the water supply, the problem persists across the state capital as we are not getting adequate power supply due to which the tanks are not getting filled up properly resulting into irregular and uneven water supply in the city,” said SDO Umesh Kumar Singh at Booty Water Treatment Plant.Singh further said that power supply was required both at Rukka and Booty water treatment plants at a time to start the pump. “Due to irregular power supply, we are not able to fill up the pump properly for the last 2-2.5 months erupting to acute water crisis everywhere in the state capital,” said Singh.
Instead of getting 22 hours of electricity supply a few months back, we are now getting only 12-14 hours of it, he added. Moreover, Singh added that they supply water to the NCC which is stored in an underground sump inside the housing complex which is distributed among the various towers by the company itself. “We are only concerned about the supply water to the underground sump of Khelgaon, which is further distributed among the flat owners,” said Singh.
