Ward committee to look into water issues

In a bid to take the city out of drinking water blues, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided to form a committee in every ward which will look into water supply issues.

During a review meeting on drinking water issues organised on Friday, Mayor Asha lakra nodded to one such proposal from Municipal Commissioner Prashant Kumar which was supported by Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargeeya and other officials of the civic body.

Though the Mayor appeared upset over instances of dozens of bills sent to the households where there was not even a water connection functional, to highly inflated bill in certain cases, the civic body didn’t appear to come out with any concrete solution of the problem. However, the RMC discussed ways to provide supply water to each and every household within its approach.

The six-member committee to be formed after a proposal gets passed in the next board meeting of the RMC will have Ward Councilor as its chief along with two plumbers who will be selected after due procedure, one member of PHED team, one City Manager and a tax collector in the area.

“It is distressing that pipeline works of phase one which were supposed to be completed by the end of 2016 itself have not been completed yet, leaving thousands of households dependent on tankers sent by RMC everyday. The contractors have been taking no-strict-action mode of civic body for granted, hence we will have to take actions against all those,” said lakra while inquiring about pipeline works given to JK Enterprises from Kantatoli zone to Hindpiri zone.

At the same time, she also enquired about completion of the second phase work of laying pipeline assigned to the larsen and Tubro subsidiary, which said that most of its works would be completed in time this year.
