Preparation of final electoral roll for general elections 2014 has reached the final stages. With the issue of formal notification for uploading the final voter’s list on the election commission website by March 30, from Chief Electoral Officer’s office the collectorate office of state capital is buzzing with election-related activities.
According to Booth level Officers (BlOs) verification of identification and address proofs are done, lists have been prepared. The only task left is to upload it.
Booth number 272 BlO Ranjeet Upadhyay sharing the information about the same said, “Verification work from our end is complete and I have submitted the list at the District Collectorate office.”
Another BlO Sayed Asrar Ahmed of booth number 309 said, “I had verified as many as 500 forms identification and address proofs in past few days. We have been asked to submit the list by March 19.”
After poor turnout of voters in the last assembly election which saw less than 40 per cent voters forced the election commission to launch special drives to encourage large number of the first time voters and women register their presence in the upcoming general election.
“The election commission has so far received as many as 73,440 applications for the enrollment since the start of 2014, including the 20,000 applications received during the last three days before
March 9,” said an official.
Meanwhile, the officials of Collectorate officers are leaving no stone unturned in accomplishing the job on stipulated period.
Deputy Election Officer Praveen Kumar Gagrai confirmed that the list from all the 2053polling stations of the Ranchi parliamentary constituency received.
“We have received the list and are busy in compiling it. Within few days the compilation work will get over then will commence the uploading work.”
He further added, “The last date for filling the nomination for Ranchi parliamentary constituency is March 26 while scrutiny will be done on March 27 and the last date for withdrawal of candidate is March 29. As soon as the nomination process concludes the final voters list will get uploaded.”
Meanwhile, voter slips are being provided to district electoral officer for distributing it to the voters. The slip will contain the name of the voter along with their photograph, assembly constituency name, polling booth number, voter id number, and election date.
All the voters whose names are enrolled in the voter list can receive the slip. If any candidate do not have the slip but have his name on the voter list can avail his voting right at the time of poll. It is not mandatory to have the voter slip. It is issued only for the sake of convenience.
