In an attempt to increase the participation of youth in the upcoming elections, the Ranchi district administration has come up with various programmes under SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation) to sensitize the voters and also ensure their participation.
“The administration is trying its best to ensure participants from all walks of life espically the young voters as part of the election process. For the first time, ‘Booth App’ is being launched. Through this App people will know the real time status in Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency,” said Ranchi Deputy Commissioner, Rai Mahimapat Ray.
Voter literacy clubs have been set up in various schools and colleges with an aim of informing the first time and future voters about the procedures related to the voting process. For the first time voters, campus ambassadors have been appointed at various colleges who are responsible for conducting awareness programmes. Voters are also informed about the entire process right from registering to casting their votes at college fests.
The programme for the future voters, especially targets students of class IX to XII. In this regard, a five- day programme starting from November 19 has been chalked out and circulars have been sent to the schools across the district for conducting the same.
This includes activities like painting competitions, rangoli making, quiz competitions, debates and human chain formation within the campus.
“The winners of the various school competitions will be awarded by the Returning Officers of the area or other district level officers next week.
Through the programme in schools, the children will be appealed to urge their parents and other family members to cast their votes on December 12,” said Saumitra Shulka IFS, Senior Official SVEEP Ranchi.
For the youth of Ranchi, a cycle rally in association with the Ranchi Cycling Club will be held on November 24. The cyclists will cover a distance of about 10 Kms starting from Morabadi Ground and around 60 registrations have been received for the same.
A bike rally with the newly launched Rapido Bike is also being planned while a rap show is also in pipeline. The administration has also involved district level football, hockey, badminton and kabaddi players to engage the youth this election season.
