Volunteers to provide 'Sahyog' in managing traffic in steel city

PNS

Tata Steel and Jamshedpur Traffic Police have launched a joint initiative ‘Sahyog’ to better the overall traffic scenario and to improve the traffic management starting with select areas of the city.

Speaking on the occasion Prabhat Kumar, superintendent of police, city, said: “Tata Steel is a major stakeholder in this city for any societal development. Traffic awareness is the difference between life and death. This is a unique and first-of-its-kind initiative in Jharkhand”.

Giving his views, Gopal Prasad Choudhary, chief security & brand protection, Tata Steel, said “Volunteers from Tata Steel will ensure effective traffic management in Jamshedpur along with the Traffice Police”.

Sahyog has been designed to jointly man heavily trafficked junctions during peak hours, to help commuters and the general public follow traffic rules for an effective traffic management. 10 volunteers provided by Tata Steel have been trained by the City Traffic department and personally briefed by the Superintendent of Police, City, Prabhat Kumar, and the Dy.SP Traffic, Vivekananda.

The volunteers are equipped with fluorescent jacket, traffic helmet, gloves & air filter masks. They have been sensitised on the primary objective of extending help to the public while working under the guidance of the deployed traffic police personnel.

Initially this initiative would be operational at the two of the most congested junctions i.e. Regal & Sakchi.  In due course a feasibility study of the status of “SAHYOG” would be carried out for further enhancement of it’s scope and coverage.

like all major cities, the population of Jamshedpur has been continuously  growing. This growth has greatly impacted traffic on the roads with more new vehicles coming on road every day.  It may be noted that the desire to reach one’s destination quickly and the  generic lack of traffic discipline among citizens, frequently causes jam, especially during peak hours. It is expected that Sahyog will improve the current scenario.
