Vinoba Bhave varsity gears up for sixth convocation

RR Srivastava

From the first working day of New Year the Vinoba Bhave University administration has once again started preparations for its sixth convocation. On the opening day ie 2nd of January the registrar placed the letter of Chancellor Office before the Vice Chancellor Surendra Singh and within minutes the entire university administration became active for successful organisation of the convocation.

Actually during the tenure of Ex-Vice Chancellor Dr RN Bhagat the VBU administration has sent a proposal to the Chancellor Office to organise its sixth convocation. In August when the tenure of Ex-VC was at its end VBU got permission letter from Chancellor Office to organise convocation in the month of October.

When acting VC Dr Nitin Madan Kulkarni took over, he called a meeting of the officers and in that meeting the examination controller said that within this short time frame preparations cannot be made, so request the chancellor to give some time. The VBU administration then sent the request letter to Chancellor Office and in the last week of December the Chancellor Office once again gave its consent for organizing convocation. This time the Chancellor Office has also given a date which is 28th of January 2014 for the sixth convocation of VBU.

Since the office was closed so this letter was placed before VC Surendra Singh on Tuesday and then things started moving faster at the university headquarters. VC Singh immediately sat with the officers and discussed about the whole process of organizing convocation. Encouraging the officers and staffs of the university VC Meena said that though we have less time but together we can make it a successful program.

Talking to ‘The Pioneer’ registrar Dr SP Sinha informed that on Thursday evening entire officers and VC Singh were in the office and some important decisions were made. To organize convocation, meetings of academic council, finance committee and syndicate is must. Academic council is going to meet on 8th of January and since finance committee is not in existence so on 10th the syndicate will approve the budget of sixth convocation too. The fifth convocation of VBU was held in January 2011 and at that time due to assembly polls the Chief Guest Sushil Kumar Shinde failed to participate.

This time once again it seems that the Chancellor will distribute the certificates because in the approval letter of organizing convocation the Chancellor Office has not hinted anything about the chief guest. Registrar Dr SP Sinha said that with the proposal we had sent the list of dignitaries to the Chancellor Office.
