Under the Right to Education Act, the School Education and Literacy Department, Jharkhand, has once again taken up the challenge of enrolling each and every child between 6 and 18 years of age in a neighbourhood school in the State.
The Vidyalaya Chalen Chalayen Abhiyaan 2019’, being held from June 10 to June 30, is aimed to ensure that there are no unenrolled children or drop outs.
A workshop at the district level was held on June 15 under the chairmanship of the Deputy Development Commissioner where as that at the block level was held on June 17 in Ranchi.
At the school level, the workshop is scheduled to begin from June 18.
There are 300 slums under the Ranchi municipal area.
For each such area one person has been appointed to ensure that all the children have taken admission in a school either government or private.
As per the child registration which has information about children aged between 6 to 14 years, school going children are identified. Those not attending any school are then encouraged to enroll.
“There are Government schools in all neighbourhoods, so parents or guardians need to have a valid reason for not sending the child to school.
These days everyone wants to send their children to school and get quality education. There are provisions for age specific enrollment for primary classes in private schools also,” said Kaushal Kishore Additional District Programme Officer (ADPO).
The workshop is also aimed to ensure that there are 100 per cent transitions from one class to the next and that there are no drop outs. “We give special attention to those going from primary to upper primary class (class V to VI) and from upper primary to secondary (class VII to IX) as there are a lot of drop- outs. There are ample teachers in government schools imparting good education.
These schools provide books, work books, uniforms and mid- day meals to the students,” the ADPO further added.
In spite of tireless efforts in the past the retention rate in the State from class 1- 12 for primary education is 76- 73 per cent, elementary is 53- 26 per cent and secondary is 31- 81 per cent.
As per the guidelines for the workshop, new admission shall be taken in standard 1, 6, 9 and 11.
It will also ensure that students from class 2 to 8, 10 and 12 are regular to school and customary parents- teachers meetings are organised. Minimum 75 percent attendance is mandatory.
