Urban Haat soon to come up in city

Nishu Chhetry, SUMI MAHATO

Road side vendors including vegetable sellers, fruit sellers, meat sellers and fish sellers will soon avail the benefits of ‘Urban Haat’, a new set up at Naga Baba Khatal, Ratu Road. The new set up will have facilities including permanent vendors’ space, public washrooms alongwith others. And, for the maintenance RMC will recruit security guards to ensure peaceful footfall of the customers.

So far, temporary vendors’ zone has been allotted to the remaining street vendors outside the premises of Atal Smriti vendor Market near Jaipal Singh Stadium, Kutchery Road.

Senior secretary of State Hawkers Federation, Anita Das said, “The problems of these street vendors will soon be resolved with the set up of Urban Haat at Naga Baba Khatal. They will be provided with permanent selling space with all basic facilities.” Urban Haat is under construction and is likely to be constructed by the end of this year, she added.

Fruit seller, Savita Devi seemed worried about the invalidation of registration form by RMC and said, “I feel helpless despite the allotment of selling zone because it a temporary based settlement because my business would be hampered in coming days.” I hope for a permanent vendors’ zone to earn profit and to get stable selling space, Devi added.

Salesman, Ashok Das said that the Ranchi Municipal Corporation ( RMC) should soon take the vendor’s plea into consideration and provide permanent space.

On July 1, after the inauguration of Atal Smiriti Vendors Market shops were allotted to a total of 569 street vendors, who put up their stalls in the area between Kutchery Chowk to Sarjana Chowk via Albert Ekka Chowk, through lottery system.
