RR Srivastava

The most affected naxal area of Hazaribagh district Bhaghar panchayat of Chouparan block is once again in limelight. On October 22 late evening at about 8 PM, some unidentified criminals entered  the village on bikes and attacked  the house of Rambali Yadav. The criminals fired some shots in the air and threatened the family members of Rambali Yadav that if they will not follow their instruction, then they will lose their lives.

The sudden arrival of four criminals on two bikes and making some shots in air first created panic in the village but soon, the villagers became united and moved towards the house of Rambali Yadav. When the criminals saw villagers coming towards them, they first tried to threaten them all but the united villagers instead of going back, started going ahead step by step.

When the criminals saw that their tactic is not working, then they suddenly started running away from the village leaving their bikes and fire arms behind. The villagers chased them to some distance but the criminals succeeded  in escaping, taking advantage of the darkness of the night.

Two days ago, Bhaghar was in the news as in political rivalry, their mukhiya lupung Munda was brutally murdered. The Bhaghar panchayat of Chouparan block is known as a safe zone for inter-state criminals. Our sources say that in this panchayat there is a good number of illegal fire arms. About a month ago, the villagers had captured a man with illegal fire arms and had handed him over to Chouparan police. This time the criminals succeeded in escaping but the villagers seized their bikes and arms and handed it over to Chouparan police. The local villagers and village local body members have once again demanded establishment of a police picket in the village to check the activities of anti-social elements.
