Two women and a 15-year old girl drowned in a pond in Paharpur village under Bengabad police station area here on Tuesday morning .
The incident occurred in the morning when they had gone to the pond with other family members to take bath.
According to witnesses, the two women drowned while trying to rescue the girl, Meeta Kumari. A 40-year old woman, Punam Devi, who suffered injuries during the process of saving her family members has been admitted to the local primary health centre at Bengabad.
The two women who died have been identified as Kitia Devi and Punia Devi, residents of local Paharpur village in Giridih district.
The villagers along with police launched a search for the bodies of the three drowned. Divers were pressed into service to fish out the bodies which have been handed over to their family after post-mortem examination.
