Two calves found dead in PTR

PNS

Tragedy again struck the Palamu Tiger Reserve when on Friday two calves were found dead at Sugwa Semer hillock about 1,100 feet high above the sea level on road number 2 of the National Park Betla under the PTR said sources.

The calves were just born as their placenta was intact. One had broken ribs. Both the calves died naturally, said the sources. A herd of two dozen elephants kept a siege to the dead bodies for hours. S E H Kazmi, the field director of PTR has confirmed the death of two calves.

He said that the deaths are quite a natural one and could have been caused by the elephants themselves as broken ribs are a strong indication to it. The calves were in their placenta stage. The elephants had neither broken it nor cut it with the help of their tusk he said.
