Tribals of Netarhat Panchyat are in dilemma. They are far from being identified, by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and still deprived from ‘Aadhaar’— aam aadmi ka adhikar in Jharkhand.
While interacting with the Asur and other tribals under Jharkhand Media Fellowship-2012 it ws revealed that Jharkhand is soon to get introduced to UID enrollment which will help as many as 9000 tribals of Netarhat panchayat under latehar district in getting a Unique Identification Number. Tribes including Asur, Birjia, Korwa, Birhor, Parahia are residing in the Netarhat panchyat forced to live sans the basic amenities, their conditions appear to be rather pathetic.
They expressed their fear on being deprived from enrollment and discuss the grudges they have against the Government sponsored welfare schemes, said Heera Birjia resident of Netarhat.
It’s worth mentioning that Jharkhand is all set to implement electronic cash transfers or direct cash transfer leveraging Aadhaar at the earliest. Five social welfare schemes includes MGNREGS, social security pensions, mid-day meal, public distribution system and stipend to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students — to be linked with the UID number soon.
While aim is to reduce corruption, eliminate waste, control expenditure and facilitate reforms through Aadhaar enabled systems in order to implement the welfare schemes and ensure that they reach the intended beneficiaries.
“Technical snag in computer software meant for UID enrollment hits the enrollment process in Netarhat Panchyat”, said the officials.
Heerak Manna Kerketta Block Development Officer Mahutand block of latehar district said : “Software is not accepting the PIN Code of later District for Netarhat panchyat though in software it comes under Gumla district and accept only Gumla district PIN code”. “I have already informed to latehar DC and requested for proper and immediate action to update the software but it yet to update ”, he added. Enrollment is quit impossible without updation in software, said Kerketta.
