Ranchi Police on Friday suspended two police personnel holding them responsible for the suicide which took place in the lock up of lalpur Police Station in Ranchi early in the morning on Friday. Vikas lakra, arrested by lalpur Police in a case related to theft allegedly committed suicide, by hanging himself from the ceiling after cutting out a piece of the blanket given to him, within two hours after being put in the lock up.
“Two of the policemen — SI Dayanand Soren and Constable Ram Prasad Singh — have been suspended after a case of negligence was registered in this regard,” said SP City Kaushal Kishor. lakra, hailing from Dhobi Ghat, hanged self from the ceiling through a piece of blanket which was provided to him by the police, he added.
lakra, in his 20s, reportedly succeeded in the second attempt of suicide after failing in the first attempt as the blanket used for the act proved to be thick for the purpose and hence the knot slipped from its position. While in the second attempt, he put out the piece of cloth stitched around the blanket and tied it properly around his neck and jumped directly to the floor from the grill after climbing on it.
He was handed over to the police by some residents of an apartment after allegedly being caught by them for trespassing into it.
