The Ranchi Police’s effort to reduce traffic congestion in the city has put Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) in sticky situation. The fresh directive by the District Police prohibits entry of petrol tankers in the city between 1.30pm to 5pm and says that the OMCs should use the Ring Road for transporting oil to other locations in the city.
The move will come into effect from May 12. ‘The road which is advised to use for transporting oil is not fit for use for security reasons as well as due to under constructed stretches,’ said Rajesh Gupta of an OMC. The District Police has asked the OMCs to use Ring Road from Namkom to Tupudana to transport oil to Khunti, Simdega, Chatra, Palamu, lohardaga, Gumla and Garhwa. However, several under constructed spots on the Ring Road and beyond has made the road unfit for travelling. ‘The Ring Road is still not complete and the stretch between Nayasaray and Chandil is dangerous due to narrow stretches and low hanging electricity cables,’
said Gupta, in charge of an OMC in Namkom, said the company had sent team of officials to study the conditions and suitability of the roads. Tankers carrying oil for city based outlets will be allowed entry thus bringing some relief to the worried owners.
