Teenager drowns at Tamar

PNS

A 16-year-old boy drowned at a check dam near Deori Temple in Tamar on Friday. He was a class Xth student of Vidhya Sagar High School in Parsudih.

Ajit Kumar Sharma had gone to attend a marriage ceremony of a relative at the location, along the NH-33 about 60 km from Jamshedpur.

He and his friend jumped into the dam but soon started yelling for help as they found themselves in trouble. A third boy, Vinod Sharma, jumped in and managed to save Abhishek but not Ajit. Ajit's body was fished out after an intensive search and taken to MGM Medical College Hospital's emergency.

One of the relatives said Vinod was not aware that the duo did not know swimming. "As the dam is deep and the current very strong, Ajit was swept away. We needed professional divers for recovery of the body but we do not have that kind of infrastructure," the relative added.

According to the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Suresh Prasad, a post-mortem was expected.
