More than 200 contract workers of Tata Power created ruckus at the Sakchi-based MGM Medical College and Hospital following the death of a worker in an accident and demanded compensation from the company management. The agitation started after a worker was killed in a road mishap inside the power plant at Jojobera under Govindpur police station on Thursday morning.

led by a local Congress leader, Anand Behari Dubey, the contract workers blocked the main gate of the medical college and hospital in favour of their demand of Rs20 lakh compensation to the family members of the victim, Sanjay Yadav and employment at the power company to the victim’s widow. A 30-year-old, Sanjay Yadav,  resident of Jemco in Telco area, was hit by a truck at the Ash Handling Area inside the power company at 5 am.

The blockade of the medical college gate was removed after a police party from Sakchi police station arrived and forced the workers to move from the spot.
