Tata Power’s Maithon Power limited (MPl), the company’s 74:26 joint venture with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), has always endeavored for sustainable development and has undertaken several initiatives for the conservation of nature. In line with this philosophy, Tata Power, in association with Siddhu Kanhu Alpasankhyak Vikas Samitee (SKAVS), organised a one-day training on ‘Horticulture and Forestation’ for employees of the Environment and CSR departments of its Maithon plant.

The objective behind this initiative was to teach the Environment and CSR departments, specialised and systematic ways of taking care of plants and trees during summers. Organised under the Company’s Green Belt Development (GBD) Project, the training saw horticulture specialists explain the basic concepts on plantation, water storage and water harvesting to the participants. The training benefitted a total of 85 employees.

Speaking on the training programme, K Chandrashekhar, CEO - Maithon Power ltd, said, “Sustainability as a practice is intricately weaved into every function of Tata Power in a way that addresses the interest of all its stakeholders and the society at large. Biodiversity is the cornerstone of our existence on earth and, being a responsible corporate citizen, Tata Power has always actively initiated integrated environmental drives. We will continue to undertake similar initiatives in the future.”

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, chief, O&M, Maithon Power limited, added, “Initiatives such as this which helps us to plan and care for better growth and protection of the plants will be immensely helpful in the Company’s Green Belt Development Programme. I am confident that implementation of such initiatives will help provide us a healthy and green ambience both around MPl and the adjoining villages.”

Tata Power believes that ‘sustainability’ as a practice is nothing but continued organizational and technological innovation that reaps both bottom-line and top-line returns, without depleting resources. With this initiative, the Company has embarked on a green highway to safeguard the environment and promote biodiversity.
