Tata Power is committed towards the inclusive growth and development of the communities living in and around its areas of operation. In line with this commitment, Maithon Power limited (MPl), a 74:26 Joint Venture company of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) successfully installed special solar powered street lights in peripheral villages around the Maithon Power Plant.
With the acute load shedding in the villages around the plant and street and common places remained un-illuminated during the night, the villagers were extremely dissatisfied. Recognizing the need for smooth inflow of electricity, Tata Power installed the close to 220 solar lights in key locations of the villages, post consultation with the Sarpanchs and community members.
Speaking on the initiative, Chandrashekhar K, CEO & ED, MPl said, “We are delighted to have made a difference to the quality of lives of our communities.” He added that this initiative reiterates to their commitment towards rural electrification and re-affirms the company’s focus on renewable energy.
“By imparting technical training, we aim to enable the youth of our community towards progress building through a sustainable approach. We encourage our stakeholders to use renewable energy sources such as solar power. Initiatives such as these are a part of Tata Power's long-term sustainability agenda, and a step towards achieving a greener environment,” he concluded.
