Chunked garbage's found drowning ‘Clean India' drive on 2nd day

Amidst Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call for remaining committed to cleanliness to make the country clean, several nooks and corners were found chunked with garbage and solid wastes in the Coal and Steel cities (Dhanbad and Bokaro) on Saturday.

The condition of the satellite city — Chas and City Centre, the heart of the steel City was found the same. Several elite and educated including Ministers, politicians, administrative officials, hundreds of the common people joined the drive. They came out with broom, got snapped and even cleaned their neighbourhood but vary on the second day, none of them were found ensuing the drive.

The politicians, the officials and others who got snapped on the first day of the drive did not turn up on the second to continue the drive. No one displayed their enthusiasm towards the drive and people of the twin cities were found less concerned over the cleanness drive.

"Apart from different parts of the twin cities, many posh areas and centre markets were found with huge garbage dumps. A similar scene can be seen on NH-23 too," said Shankar a student of Class 12.

“There is huge obstacle to dispose the waste as cities have no place to dispose the garbage. Municipal Corporation is finding it hard to dump such huge amount of garbage," said an official.

"One day cleaning will not help. It has to be regular, sustained and equipped with latest machines for decompose; else this drive or appeal sustained as tokenism of one day,” said Punam Sinha, Director of PACE an NGO working for edification in Dhanbad and Bokaro.

“With lack of machinery to treat solid waste, many plants are forcing the workers to dump garbage roadside,” she added. "Beginning of good work is always hard. Swachchh Bharat is a laudable goal and the Prime Minister has done well to make it a priority," she said adding “Not for the show-off, we all should join the PM's drive by heart, keeping our surroundings clean".
