Cases of surrogacy is slowly moving upwards as infertility treatment clinics are being approached by childless couple with surrogate mothers ready to bear child for those couples. Although cases of surrogacy is always wrapped in secrets about couples and surrogate mothers, infertility treatment clinics view merit for a women going through the physiological changes for the sake of happiness of others.
As many as 50 cases of surrogacy have been treated by Ranchi Based infertility treatment clinic A.H. IVF & Infertility Research Centre in last few years with the success ratio of around 90 per cent. However, the success ratio masks the brutal reality that compels a woman to help others attain parenthood.
“Most of the surrogate mothers say that they came into this because of their financial needs and they wanted to improve their economic condition to help their child in education. They say that they want their children to be better educated,” said Director, A.H. IVF, Dr Jaya Bhattacharya.
Almost all cases that the renowned fertility clinic has come across involve women from lower income group renting out their womb for the sake of affluent class belonging to middle to higher income group. Surrogacy as it is being practiced involves finding a suitable woman who can bear child of a couple and also taking care of physiological needs of the woman carrying the baby of the couple.
“They do it for better education which is also the need of the hour. Our country needs better educated people. We need to create more awareness about it,” added Dr Bhattacharya while addressing media during an event at the clinic.
According to the director of the clinic most of the couples come from West Bengal to Ranchi for treatment and surrogacy related services. Dr Bhattacharya claimed that the clinic has a success ratio of 45-48 per cent in IVF treatment and has pioneered frozen embryo transplant.
But the seasoned doctor stressed upon strict regulation for the market and creating more awareness about the method to save childless couple falling into the trap lay by quacks and also know the brighter side of the life that exists for those living in despair because of failure to become parents.
