The team of ophthalmology department of Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) has successfully transplanted the eye donation made by a deceased patient (74 years retired BSL personnel) to another visually impaired patient. The team included Dr. Sophia Ahmed, Dr. Ranjana Pandey, Dr. Sushil Kumar, Dr. Deepti Prabha Ekka, Dr. N. Ahmadi and Dr. Aishwarya Mohanty from the Department of Ophthalmology, BGH. Expressing gratitude to the late retired BSL personnel and their families for the sacred decision of eye donation, the team of BGH Ophthalmology Department saved the eyes of the deceased patient by performing a quick operation. Patients who were already registered for corneal transplantation were contacted and after getting consent from an elderly female patient, a team of doctors successfully transplanted a donated cornea to restore vision in one of her visually impaired eyes.

It is noteworthy that with one eye donation, the cornea can be successfully transplanted in two patients. As a result of the Eye Bank facility started at BGH in the year 2013, successful corneal transplantation has been done in 25 patients so far. Presently 29 patients are awaiting cornea transplant and are in touch with Eye Bank of BGH. Those people who want to register themselves for eye donation can register their names in room no 18 of BGH. Apart from this recently BGH Neurosurgery department scripted history by having first time in Jharkhand successful operation of Spinal cord with balloon kyphoplasty method.
