Students tie Rakhi to trees to protect nature

Taking the vow to protect and conserve trees, members of PIKASO Art Center (an NGO) tied Rakhi’s to trees at Dhanbad on Saturday morning.

Raksha Bandhan literally means ‘bond of protection’, it’s a bond of love, purity and security, said Dhermadeo Rai, district education officer. “Rampant encroachment and wanton felling of trees is on its rise. With tying Rakhi to the trees we want to blaze a trail to protect trees not only in the coal belt but across the country too”, he said.

“We tied Rakhis to trees as a symbolic gesture to create awareness among people to protect the trees”, said C Paul, a member of PIKASO.

Along with students several members tied Rakhi to the trees and put ‘tilak’ on them at Sundri Balika Middle School at Dhanbad. Expressing love and concern for environment we all should celebrate this festival by tying this bond to at least one tree on this Raksha Bandhan, Paul urges to the mass.

“We all should treat the trees like our brothers and should pray for the long life (of the trees)”, he added.
