Several students who have opted for studying specialised courses at India’s third Defense training university – the Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University (JRSU) -- are in quandary now. Given the campus placement record of their seniors, most of them feel that the university has failed miserably in pulling recruiters for providing them quality jobs.
“Forget about the certificate and diploma courses even our seniors who pursued Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Industrial Security were expecting good outcome. But most of them were placed in a lower grade. Our course module covers fire safety and management, managing industrial setup with on-the-job-training facility despite this none of our seniors got descent placement. At least an executive grade job is expected after passing from a national university,” said a student, requesting anonymity.
Also, the certificate course in Police Science has been scrapped out that had an intake of 40 students said another student. Interestingly, PGD in Industrial Security including Diploma in Police Science are the expensive courses costing students Rs 30,000 and Rs 21,000 respectively on an annual basis. Furthermore, both boys and girls have to pay equal fees for each course now. Earlier, according to the fees structure girls had to pay 50 per cent less amount for the courses in comparison to their male counterparts.
Notably, only 31 out of 101 students of three different courses have been able to get jobs this year. Ironically, most of them have been appointed has a security guard. Also, former students had claimed that they have been misguided as they have been promised earlier that they will be placed within Jharkhand or else in the adjoining States only but all of them were compelled to join the service in Chennai, Tamil Nadu merely at a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 to 16,000.
One UK based firm--G4S Security Solutions has conducted placement drive besides that no other recruiters have yet approached the university officials for hiring students trained in specialised courses.
Meanwhile, the officials of JRSU have written to Home Department, GoJ and Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to make mandatory changes in recruitment norms. Registrar, Dr. MK Jamuar said that the students have been hired for the post of Supervisors.
“The University is at a nascent stage, also the placements has been given to the students on the basis of their educational qualification. For the post of constables, Sub-Inspector (SI), the university has written to Home Department to change the recruitment rules while a letter has been given to JPSC for adding on all the courses being taught here at JRSU so that accordingly posts can be created by the State Government,” he said.
Jamuar further added that the members of governing council of the defence training university had also written to the Chief Minister about the same requesting him to appoint the pass out students of JRSU in the mobile forensic labs established at each district.
“Since the degree level students are yet to pass out from the university, we have sufficient time to place them. Also, modernisation of State police department is on the cards, looking at the dearth of forensic and cyber experts, our students can get jobs under specialised units easily here.”Jamuar said.
At present five specialized courses which include MA/M.Sc. in Criminology, PGD in Industrial Security, BSc (Hons.) in computer application and cyber security, BSc (Hons.) in Forensic Science and Diploma in Police Science are offered at JRSU. Each course has 40 seats while Masters Degree in Criminology has 20 seats.
