About 250 students from various colleges and universities of Tamil Nadu on Thursday reached the city following an indefinite closure of educational institutions by the Tamil Nadu Government for the agitation over the Sri lankan Tamil issue.

Tamil Nadu Government has announced the closure of educational institutions till further notice. This followed the unrest among the student community after the suicide of a youth in protest of the killing of Tamils in Sri lanka. Concerned over the unrest, the students decided to return home till the situation gets normal.

“It is unfortunate that the suicide of a student is being politicised in Tamil Nadu. I have never seen such a situation in the southern State like this before,” noted Saptarishi Samatha, a student from Chennai.

He went on to inform that many arts and science colleges have not joined the protest because their management doesn’t want to get involved in this issue. The Tamil Nadu Government has ordered to shut down 525 engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University indefinitely.

Sharing his ordeal he did not get seats and had near toilet. Others who were travelling with a waiting ticket too shared the same story. Most of the students boarded the trains on Tuesday, March 19.

Students have been boarding Alleppey Express and some have also boarded Chennai-Dhanbad Express to get down at Rourkela and then board a train to Tatanagar station.”The situation was getting tensed at Chennai. We are really satisfied that we have reached home safely,” said a student.
