A group of students from Jamshedpur Worker’s College Wednesday met Anoop T Mathew, senior superintendent of police (East Singhbhum) for deployment of policemen on the campus for better security. About 20 students complained of the outsiders who frequently enter the college campus disturbing the academic environment. The students later submitted a memorandum to Mathew who promised them to look into the matter.
The students of the constituent college of Kolhan University have been complaining about eve-teasing for the past few months. Students said that there are various groups who enter the college because there is no checking of identity cards on the entrance.
“The situation has worsened of late. If these gundas have no place to sit and spend time, they enter the college campus. Therefore we requested police deployment in the campus or at least at the college gate who can check students’ identity cards before letting them in,” said Hemant Pathak, president of Jamshedpur Worker’s College and also a final year M.Com student.
The principal of the college DP Shukla too had informed the administration about the problems but so far there has been no security. For Jamshedpur Worker’s College which has also installed CCTV cameras at the entrance after the September incident, these problems have been quite common.
