Though the police have been working on some of the important leads gathered from various sources, they are still clueless about the culprits even after four days of rape and murder of an engineering student at Booty Basti in Ranchi. Meanwhile, technical and non-technical student’s unions have called Ranchi Bandh on Thursday against the failure of the police to nab the criminals even after four days of the incident.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das also announced Rs 3 lakh financial help to the victim’s family after discussing the matter with Ranchi MP Ramtahal Chaudhary, Kanke MlA Jitu Charan Ram and Khijri MlA Ram Kumar Pahan.

“I can only assure that the SIT and other agencies of the State police have been working on very important leads and we are waiting those leads to get developed into evidences. It is for sure, that the case will be disclosed very soon,” said Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi.

A semi- charred body of the 19-year-old third semester student of Ram Tahal Chaudhary Institute of Technology was found inside her house on Friday morning. She was alone at home when the incident took place. Originally from CMPDI Colony of Barkakana, the girl was living with her elder sister on a rented accommodation in Booty Basti.

Meanwhile, Technical and non-Technical Students’ Unions on Tuesday held a meeting and decided to call a peaceful Ranchi bandh on Thursday against the failure of the police to crack the case even after four days of the incident. The students will also organise a candle march from Ranchi University to Albert Ekka Chowk on the eve of the bandh to be taken part by thousands of students of various colleges in the State capital.

A release issued by the union also demanded immediate arresting of the culprits involved in the case and should be hanged till death. Secondly, to ensure that no such incident occurs in future, women constables must be deputed in each of the technical and non-technical Institutes all over the State.

Students of Ram Tahal Chaudhary Institute of Technology and Cambridge Institute of Technology observed black day on Tuesday and organised a motorcycle march till Booty More wrapping a black ribbon on their arms.

“It was just to express our protest against the police which fail to arrest even a single culprit in case given the fact that several agencies of the police department have been roped in to look into the matter,” said a student Badal Kumar Singh. He added they were not in favour of calling any bandh as it leads to inconvenience to the people.
