In a bid to ensure fool proof security arrangements during festivals the Ranchi Police moved an extra mile this year barricading religious places and ‘sensitive’ spots on the way of Muharram processions. Elaborate arrangements were made by police covering the entire procession route under CCTV surveillance and barricading the sensitive spots. Police said that extra deployment of forces was also done on the sensitive locations identified by the district administration to avert any untoward incident on Muharram.

“It has been peaceful so far as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the City as infallible arrangements had been made by us by barricading of sensitive spots properly and deployment of forces on all strategic locations,” said SP (City) Aman Kumar. Meanwhile, deployment of forces for Durga Puja also continued even on Tuesday so that peace could be maintained during Muharram, he added.

“It was also ensured that the procession did not get diverted from the prescribed routes decided earlier for which proper barricading was done. It was also ensured that entire route taken by the procession get covered under CCTV surveillance so that a close eye could be kept on its movements for better control over the crowd,” said the SP.

The SP said that it had also been ensured that the vehicles parked on the prescribed route were removed for smooth movement of procession.

Following the directions passed by Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma and DGP DK Pandey, the district administration was also in regular contact with Muharram Organizing Committees in the city and ensured that patrolling was done continuously headed by the magistrates deployed in their respective areas.

It was also directed to the district administrations to keep a close eye on social media to check nefarious intensions of rumour mongers. The district administration had also been directed to follow the instructions passed by the State Government on September 23.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raghubar Das also took part in Muharram procession at Rajendra Chowk in Ranchi and congratulated people of Jharkhand for presenting an example of communal harmony by concluding both Durga Puja and Muharram peacefully. Addressing the gathering Das also declared that the foundation stone for a ‘Musafirkhana’ near the mazaar of Risaldar Baba in Ranchi will be laid down by October this year.

Das also visited Ekra Masjid and gave a message of cleanliness as it brings prosperity. “We should also keep our surroundings clean as we keep our religious places,” said the CM.

AJSU Supremo Sudesh Mahto also took part in Bariatu Naujawan Muharram Committee at Bariatu during which he was presented a sword by AJSU District President Mohsin Khan.
