Maheshpur legislator Stephen Marandi, who has remained MlA for seven times, bagged ‘Birsa Munda Award of Excellence’ for the year 2016 on 16th Foundation Day of Jharkhand Assembly on Tuesday. Three other employees of Jharkhand Assembly --  Anant Joy lakra, Maya Tamang and Brahmdeo Mahto -- were also felicitated by Chief Minister Raghunar Das for their outstanding contribution and dedication in discharging their duties on the occasion.

Speaking a gathering of MlAs, former MlAs, and senior leaders Marandi stressed on prioritising parliamentary affairs by a legislator over solving day to day problems of the people of one’s constituency.

“One should focus more on parliamentary affairs rather than solving problems of the people of one’s constituency as it takes time to be well versed in parliamentary affairs; he must be aware of every technicality of it,” said Marandi. People do not see their legislator what exactly they are meant for, hence they should focus more on the parliamentary affairs, he added.

Once they start focusing on parliamentary affairs, they will automatically become champions of it and will be able to come up to expectations of the legislator, said Marandi.

“legislation could not be mugged up…..it could be inculcated through regular practice,” said Maheshpur MlA.

Marandi said that if Jharkhand has to go further, an assessment must be done that that what have been the achievements so far in the last 16 years.

“We need to work in team spirit, if we really want Jharkhand to excel,” said Marandi.

Family members of

martyrs Francis Horo, Joseph laguri, Shakti Singh, Nayan Kujur and Jawra Munda, who lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir fighting with the terrorists, were also facilitated during the Foundation Day.
