The “Statue of Unity” campaign in Jharkhand is likely to kick-start from January 23 with a collection of iron equipment — used in agriculture and soil of villages — spread across length & breadth of the State. The campaign will begin at panchayat level.

The “loh Sangrahan Samiti” has distributed more than 4,000 collection kits across the State which comprises an invitation letter for the people of panchayats, a signature form to seek “moral support” of people, posters, and bags for collecting soil and iron tools.

“We have invited panchayat representatives to programmes that will be organised at block levels. We will apprise them about the programme,” said State convener of the committee OP Singh.

The committee will be helped by organizations like Patanjali Yogapeeth, members of Vikas Bharati, Citizen Foundation and several other organisations with affinity to the Bhartiya Janta Party. “We are conducting meetings at panchayat level to take stock of the preparations,” added Singh.

The collection drive at panchayat level will end on February 7 after which the equipment collected will be sent at respective blocks by February 11. The iron tools collected will be assembled at Ranchi by February 15 before sending it off to Gujarat on the next day. Notably, the committee will also collect a collective photo of all panchayat representatives that will be displayed at the statue.

The Statue of Unity is dedicated to India’s first Home Minister Vallabhbhai Patel. The 182 meter statue will be built on Sadhu Bet riverbed of Narmada River and around 3 km from the Sardar Sarovar dam.
