The AYUSH department of the State is going to start a one-year certificate course in yoga at the State Yoga Centre.

AYUSH Director Abdul Numan Ahmed said on Friday that the department was in advanced stage of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Council for Research in Yoga And Naturopathy (CCRYN) for the same, and it could take place as early as within a month which could pave way for the much-awaited course in State.

Ahmed said on Friday that a team of CCRYN visited to the State Yoga Centre at Jail Road recently. “The team found the centre worth starting professional course and is ready to take over the premise. Everything from deciding course structure to fees structure will be taken care by them and we will work as a custodian of centre once the MoU is signed,” Ahmed elaborated.

Notably, AYUSH department is busy in preparation of International Yoga Day which falls on June 21 every year. A meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Sudhir Tripathi took place on Monday last week to review arrangements to be made in Morhabadi Grounds for the day on which around 10,000 people including VIPs are expected to be seen breathing in and breathing out.

“Though Yoga had started gaining popularity through a number of programmes by different Trusts, the era-old science of physical fitness has seen new dawn after Prime Minister Narendra Modi succeeded to convince the world to have a dedicated yoga day in a year. In this changed scenario, we moved forward to start professional yoga training course of one year which would ultimately cater to the growing demand of yoga trainers in school, colleges and other places,” said Ahmed.

He added that the department had also written to CCRYN to start a Yoga Hospital in State which is likely to come out in Deoghar.
